The country's First State has a lot to offer

The United States Travelers League reveals our inaugural "100 Great American Places" list starting in early 2021. Here are five early nominees for Delaware, the First State, including Fort Delaware State Park (pictured). (photo: Chris Engel, Pixabay)


1. Air Mobility Command Museum -- Dover AFB

The only museum dedicated to airlift and air refueling history, with over 30 aircraft varying in roles and sizes. amcmuseum.org


2. Rehoboth Beach and Boardwalk -- Rehoboth Beach

Known as the “Nation’s Summer Capital,” Rehoboth Beach is now known as a year round vacation destination for business and pleasure. cityofrehoboth.com


3. Fort Delaware State Park -- Delaware City

Costumed interpreters take you back to the summer of 1864 -- tour the parade ground, officers' quarters, barracks, kitchen, blacksmith shop and more. destateparks.com/History/FortDelaware


4. Nemours Estate -- Wilmington

Modeled after Versailles, Nemours is a masterpiece of design with its mansion, fountains, artwork, gilded sculpture and a formal French garden. nemoursestate.org


5. Trap Pond State Park -- Laurel

Trap Pond became one of Delaware's first state parks in 1951 and hosts the country’s northernmost natural stand of bald cypress trees. destateparks.com/TrapPond
