Arizona's "Great Places"

There's so much more to see than the Grand Canyon

The United States Travelers League reveals our inaugural "100 Great American Places" list starting in early 2021. Here are five early nominees for Arizona, the Grand Canyon State, including Horseshoe Bend (pictured). (photo by Stéphane Paul, Unsplash)

1. Horseshoe Bend -- Page / Lake Powell

The Colorado River’s Horseshoe Bend has quickly become one of the most famous river bends in the country due to its expansive, breathtaking views.

2. Saguaro National Park -- Tucson

The giant saguaro cactus is the universal symbol of the American west, and these majestic plants are protected by Saguaro National Park, to the east and west of Tucson.

3. Antelope Canyon -- Page

Few geological formations are as picturesque and awe-inspiring as Antelope Canyon, a magnificent slot canyon just east of Page in Northern Arizona. With tall winding walls, it’s a monumental sandstone sculpture.

4. Biosphere 2 -- Oracle

The Biosphere 2 facility serves as a laboratory for controlled scientific studies, an arena for scientific discovery and discussion, and a far-reaching provider of public education.

5. Hall of Flame - Museum of Firefighting -- Phoenix

The Hall of Flame Museum has almost an acre of fire history exhibits, including over 100 fully restored pieces of fire apparatus on display, dating from 1725 to 2004.
